Job Title: Director/Technical Director
Location: KTVN 2 News Nevada
Reports To: Operations Manager
Job Summary: The Director/Technical Director is responsible for executing the production elements of KTVN newscasts and supervising production personnel involved in daily newscasts and special programming. This role includes technical execution, crew leadership, and oversight of Master Control operations. The Director/Technical Director ensures high production standards and seamless on-air presentations during live broadcasts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with producers to plan and prepare newscasts.
- Build and execute rundowns, graphics, and video elements in pre-production.
- Direct and switch live newscasts using Ross Overdrive Automation.
- Supervise production crew during newscasts and assign tasks as needed.
- Perform other control room roles (e.g., graphics) as required.
- Oversee and troubleshoot Master Control automation system during shifts.
- Manage program and spot preparation, PSAs, promos, and special projects.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of consistent live newscast directing experience (2+ shows per week preferred).
- Proficient, or be trainable, with broadcast systems including:
- Ross Overdrive & Acuity Switcher
- Ross Xpression Graphics
- Digital video servers
- Robotic Cameras
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and problem-solve under live broadcast pressure.
- Knowledge of TV station operations (news, production, traffic, engineering).
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Broadcast-related technical school or college coursework preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Flexible schedule; must be available for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, as well as perform tasks that may require bending, kneeling, or climbing.
NOTE: The News Department functions 24/7 and this position can require long hours, unplanned interruptions at odd hours and could involve weekend and occasional holiday work requirements.
