Education Internship

Part-time/Temporary/9-12 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday and the second Saturday of each month. The Museum is an EOE.

As an Education Intern, for the Nevada Museum of Art, this position will support select educational programs in the education department that help to foster diverse audiences and lifelong learning. The intern will support the School Tours program as well as the monthly Hands ON! Second Saturday program. The intern will learn how to lead School Tours and Art Labs by facilitating art projects and tours using inquiry-based techniques. 

The intern will gain an understanding of how to use and implement National Core Arts Standards and Nevada Academic Content Standards in gallery and classroom settings. With a student-centered approach, this position will learn grade-specific content and interdisciplinary arts integration topics while making meaningful connections with the exhibitions of the Nevada Museum of Art. 

This internship is overseen by the Nell J. Redfield Curator of Learning and Engagement.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SCHOOL TOURS

  • Lead inquiry-based school tours through the Museum’s collections and exhibitions.
  • Lead Art Labs (art marking component) in the classroom utilizing the standards.
  • Integrate the National Core Arts Standards and Nevada Academic Content Standards for each grade-banded school tour and art lab.
  • Develop communications skills with the Museum Educator team, students, and teachers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Gain classroom and group management skills.

HANDS ON! SECOND SATURDAYS

  • Facilitate monthly art projects with families during Hands On! Second Saturday each month by greeting families as they enter the classroom spaces and guiding the groups through each step of the art project.
  • Assist with the setup, project prep, and the cleaning of the classroom spaces.
  • Engage with the Museum project volunteers, who support the facilitation of the projects, by working alongside them to create a welcoming space for creativity and learning.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • All majors accepted, Juniors – Seniors preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, capable of working in a fast-paced environment, able to anticipate, recognize, and solve problems.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

  • 120 Hours Per Semester - 3 UNR credits available
  • Tuesday – Friday, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. Must be available at least 9 hours a week.
  • Second Saturdays 9:30 am- 4:30 pm

REQUIREMENTS
