About SLEKE.:
SLEKE. is a startup building a smartphone designed to help you spend less time glued to your device and more time engaging with the world around you.
Our phone includes just the essentials (maps, messaging, music, money, and tools for life) and cuts out the rest (social media, infinite scrolls, games, and the unlimited access to the web). Built for people who want to be more present and intentional, it’s tech that gives your time and attention back.
The idea came while we were working and traveling through beautiful places in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Surrounded by real-life beauty, we still found ourselves glued to our screens. No device offered just the communication and utility features we needed for our travels without also hijacking our attention. So we built one.
SLEKE. users average just 38 minutes of screen time a day. The rest? That’s for fixing bikes, baking bread, or knitting cute capybara plushies.
We’re not anti-tech. We’re pro-human. We build tech for people who want to live stories worth telling.
Internship Description:
At SLEKE, we believe that data and creativity aren’t opposites, they’re complimentary. This internship is for students who are curious about why people really do things, not just what they say they do, and want to test those insights in the real world.
Interns will work on a two-person team exploring the intersection of performance marketing and brand storytelling. We’re conducting ongoing experiments to understand what messaging, formats, and channels expand our brand and grow our sales. Your role is to help us design smarter experiments, craft compelling messages, and interpret results through both a quantitative lens and a human one.
This is an ideal position for someone who is passionate about the psychology of persuasion, who understands that the best ideas often look irrational on a spreadsheet but feel right to a customer, and who is ready to blend creativity with analysis in pursuit of real-world results.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 12 weeks total)
- Develop messaging hypotheses based on human insights and cultural trends.
- Explore unconventional growth channels, language strategies, or product positioning.
- Collaborate with a fellow intern and supervisor to track impact and iterate on approaches.
- Assist in designing and evaluating marketing experiments (brand vs sales-focused).
- Create and test content across multiple formats (short form video, written, image-based).
- Analyze results using performance data (e.g. click-through rates, conversions, watch time).
Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
- Learn to balance human insight with data in marketing strategy.
- Become confident in crafting and analyzing small-scale performance tests.
- Understand the “psychologic” side of marketing: why people choose what they choose.
- Generate and test original content across platforms with a growth-focused mindset.
- Walk away with experience in both brand-building and sales-driven marketing.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester
- Spring ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Comfortable engaging in both out of the box and conventional thought frameworks.
- Curious about human behavior, marketing psychology, and creativity in business.
- Enthusiastic about SLEKE.’s mission to create technology that enables deeper engagement with the real world.
- Familiarity with basic content creation tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Figma, Adobe, etc.).
- Comfortable analyzing simple marketing data (views, likes, click-through, etc.).
- Strong written communication skills.
- Self-directed & collaborative.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An interest in behavioral science, advertising psychology, or the work of Rory Sutherland, Daniel Kahneman (or similar thinkers)
- Comfortable being “in the spotlight” if testing content with your face or voice
- Experience with short-form video or written storytelling for social
- Based in Northern Nevada during internship (not required, but in-person collaboration possible)
Desired Schedule for Intern:
- Work hours distributed evenly between June 2 and August 22 (360 total hours)
- Flexible daily scheduling, with an emphasis on 4+ hour focused work blocks
- Fully remote position, with opportunities for local collaboration if based in Northern Nevada
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 360 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
