Child and Family Policy Marketing and Communications Intern (PIGP, Children's Advocacy Alliance, Summer '25)

**This internship is hosted by Children's Advocacy Alliance and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN.

The Children’s Advocacy Alliance (CAA) Nevada is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through policy advocacy, research, and community engagement. We work to advance early childhood education, children’s health, and child welfare policies at the state and federal levels. Our team collaborates with lawmakers, community organizations, and families to create systemic change that ensures every child in Nevada has the opportunity to thrive. 

  

Interns at CAA gain hands-on experience in policy research, legislative advocacy, and nonprofit leadership. Internship Description: 

At CAA, we envision a world where every child thrives. As a Child and Family Policy Marketing and Communications Intern, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our mission to advocate for policies that ensure the well-being and health of children and families. The Child and Family Policy Marketing and Communications Intern will gain experience in building internal/external relationships with community partners, donors, elected officials, and media. The intern will also gain experience in professional writing and graphic design/photography. This position reports directly to the Marketing Communications Manager. The primary responsibility of the Child and Family Policy Marketing and Communications Intern is to support raising awareness of the organization and assist in ongoing communication with donors, community partners, elected officials, media outlets and staff. Other duties may also be assigned as needed. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Curate stories/articles from community partners and other sources to develop content to be used in traditional and digital outreach channels 
  • Write press releases for events, announcements and policy responses to press 
  • Support the marketing and communications staff in creating digital and printed collateral 
  • Assist with special events including planning and execution of the event 
  • Assist with any photography or video needs 
  • Update social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram & Threads 
  • Develop and maintain press lists for local and state media 
  • Any other duties as assigned by Marketing Communication Manager 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (20 hours per week minimum, 6 weeks total) 
  • Increase Awareness & Engagement 
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance CAA’s visibility through social media, email campaigns, and digital content 
  • Support Advocacy Communications 
  • Create compelling messaging, graphics, and materials that educate the public and policymakers about CAA’s policy priorities 
  • Strengthen Community Outreach 
  • Assist in event promotion, stakeholder engagement, and storytelling efforts to amplify the voices of children and families in Nevada. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester 
  • Students who’ve graduated Spring 2025 or earlier are not eligible for this position 
  • Proficient skills in: Microsoft office, Google suite, Canva, & Zoom 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Adobe products or video editing, experience executing social media campaigns 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

There is a weekly virtual team meeting on Fridays from 10:00 – 12:00, most other work can be flexible. There may be 1-2 opportunities for tabling events on weekends during the internship period. 

This position has the opportunity to work with either the Reno Office OR the Las Vegas Office for in-person aspects of job. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete a minimum of 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
