Overview
The Communications Intern is responsible for supporting the League’s efforts to inform and engage the community through digital media, public outreach, and storytelling. This position is part of the Communications team and will assist in sharing the League’s mission, programs, and initiatives with the public. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, creative thinker, and passionate about environmental conservation.

Founded in 1957, the League is the oldest and most successful environmental organization focused on protecting and restoring Lake Tahoe’s beauty. Essential Functions/Principal Responsibilities
- Assist in creating content for the League’s social media platforms, website, and email newsletters.
- Support the drafting and editing of press releases, blog posts, and other written materials.
- Attend events on behalf of the League to gather information, conduct interviews, and draft longer form content.
- Assist with promoting public events and outreach campaigns.
- Contribute to graphic design and multimedia projects as needed.
- Conduct research on environmental topics and audience engagement strategies.
- Support the League’s brand consistency across digital and print platforms.
Other Duties
- Attend meetings and activities as requested by the Supervisor.
- Assist with event logistics and coordination.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- An interest in environmental conservation and the League’s mission to protect, restore, and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Environmental Studies, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience with photography, videography, and video editing software is a plus.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
Pay and Hours
$20/hr.
Up to 190 total hours during the internship period. (preference for summer internship availability)
Flexible scheduling, with potential for academic credit (depending on your institution, area of study, etc.).
