Campus Outreach Intern (PIGP, USAC, Summer '25)

**This internship is hosted by USAC and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN.

University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) 

 

About USAC: 

USAC, a nonprofit organization based at UNR since 1982, has provided students with life-changing opportunities to live and learn in countries around the globe. We operate more than 50 affordable, authentic study abroad programs in 26 countries, and strive to provide students with ample opportunities to become engaged, global citizens. 

 

Internship Description: 

The intern will work with the USAC/UNR outreach and advising team to facilitate and increase outreach efforts on campus. They will work on various projects and tasks with the USAC team across departments with the aim of deepening USAC's presence and visibility on campus, and disseminating information about the benefits of study abroad to students, faculty and UNR community. This will be done through interacting with USAC staff, creating materials, conducting research, presenting in person and virtually, and collaborating in a team, all committed to the benefits and importance of international education and to making it accessible for all UNR students. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Assist to design, create and distribute digital and print material representing USAC for the UNR campus community 
  • Written and verbal skills are important, as the intern would also be speaking with campus offices, departments, students, faculty and staff regarding USAC and USAC programs 
  • Intern may visit classrooms, create hand-outs for students and faculty, seek creative methods and pathways to promote the benefits of international exposure, intercultural experience, and USAC study abroad opportunities 
  • Distributing information regarding grants, scholarships and study/teaching abroad opportunities 
  • Assist with presenting in person and virtually at campus events (such as promoting UNR visiting professor courses abroad) 
  • Helping to design materials emphasizing career skill development resulting from study abroad and sharing those materials with campus, USAC partners, and USAC departments and contacts 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (20 hours per week minimum, 6 weeks total) 
  • Learn sufficiently about USAC to create and share accurate information around the benefits of studying abroad (re: academics, career skill development, soft skills, problem-solving, flexibility, openness to other cultures, etc.).  
  • Create at least 10 digital or print flyers/materials 
  • Create at least 5 blog posts regarding benefits of studying abroad 
  • Create content for sharing with UNR student communications platforms, including radio and podcast 
  • Take part in student focus group(s) for content review 
  • Help USAC to match/map curriculum needs of UNR students with select USAC programs (such as, not limited to, college of/majors/minors in liberal arts, health sciences, education, journalism).  
  • If fluent in Spanish, create Spanish language materials regarding USAC programs and the student journey for assisting students and their families in the study abroad experience (e.g predeparture advising, travel preparation).  
  • Work specifically with the CEO to develop an ongoing, virtual, international cultural series (lectures/presentations) by USAC faculty/staff in over 25 countries. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester 
  • Students who’ve graduated Spring 2025 or earlier are not eligible for this position 
  • Skills with Word, Power Point 
  • Good writing and verbal skills, experience with verbal presentations 
  • Experience with interacting virtually with groups (such as giving a presentation on Teams) 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience traveling, living, studying abroad would be ideal, but not required. 
  • Spanish language skills preferred but not required. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

Interns and supervisor to determine an appropriate schedule according to tasks/projects and priorities. Intern would be available in person in the USAC office at least 3 days per week, approx. hours 10am-3pm; some remote and varying hours are possible. An occasional evening or weekend-day event may take place. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete a minimum of 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
