Arts Administration Intern (The Reno Phil, Pack Intern, Spring '27)

**This internship is hosted by The Reno Phil and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN. 

 

Students are highly encouraged to complete a 15 minute drop-in or schedule an in-person or virtual 30-minute appointment with a Career Mentor BEFORE submitting an application. Resumes and cover letters that do not meet NCS best practices will not be included in applicant packages to employers. 

  

After the application period closes in Handshake, the NCS Internships Team reviews the applicants and sends eligible students' applicant packages to employers for them to reach out to conduct interviews and make the final intern selection. Employers will contact students directly if they are interested in moving forward with them as a candidate.

About The Reno Phil: 

The Reno Phil is northern Nevada’s largest performing arts organization. We are a part-time, per-service orchestra comprised of over 60 professional musicians who perform more than 30 concerts annually throughout the Reno, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe region. The Reno Philharmonic Association oversees and operates the professional orchestra, a symphonic chorus, three youth orchestras and numerous educational and outreach programs. Musicians of the professional orchestra, youth orchestras, various ensembles and education programs offer more than 60 performances each year, playing to over 55,000 people, half of them school-aged children. As a federally registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the state of Nevada, the Reno Phil engages an active Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, patrons, donors, sponsors, partner organizations and the community to ensure that it will thrive through future generations.   

 

Internship Description: 

The Arts Administration Intern will focus on our Community Engagement initiatives including Play and Sing for a Day and our upcoming Space Festival while getting to engage in all aspects of the organization. Including program production, promotion, and evaluation. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Gain a deep understanding of the Reno Phil's mission, programs, and organizational structure.  
  • Contribute to Education and Community Engagement:  
    • Assist in the planning and execution of educational programs and community outreach events.  
    • Help develop educational materials and resources.  
    • Collaborate with community partners to enhance engagement efforts.  
    • Measure and analyze the impact of education and community engagement initiatives.  
  • Support Marketing Efforts:  
    • Assist in creating content for social media, newsletters, and website.  
    • Participate in the development of marketing campaigns and strategies.  
    • Monitor and analyze marketing metrics and audience engagement.  
    • Collaborate with graphic designers and media partners for promotional materials.  
  • Contribute to Development and Fundraising:  
    • Help organize and execute fundraising events and campaigns.  
    • Participate in grant writing and reporting efforts.  
    • Support donor stewardship and recognition activities.  

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total). The intern is expected to be punctual, responsible, and dedicated to the assigned tasks and projects. 
  • Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, donors, partners, and community members. 
  • Communicate effectively with team members, share progress updates, and ask questions when necessary. 
  • Be open to learning new skills and taking on new responsibilities as needed to support the organization's goals. 
  • Respect the confidentiality of sensitive donor and organizational information. 
  • Bring creative ideas and innovative approaches to marketing, community engagement, and development efforts. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment. 
  • Take initiative in self-directed learning, seeking opportunities to expand knowledge and skills related to arts administration. 
  • Keep thorough records of work, including project details, research findings, and marketing analytics. 
  • Participate in regular feedback sessions with supervisors to assess progress and address any concerns or areas for improvement. 
  • These goals and expectations provide a framework for the Arts Administration Intern to have a meaningful and productive experience while contributing to the success of the Reno Phil in their education and community engagement, marketing, and development efforts. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘27 semester
  • December ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Pack Internship Grant Program
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Familiarity with various technology and software platforms (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) 
  • Team player 
  • Adaptability - willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and take on new tasks or challenges as needed. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Passion for the arts - a genuine interest in and passion for the performing arts, music or cultural organizations. 
  • Passion for community engagement - an interest in and commitment to community engagement and outreach initiatives 
  • Ability to read music 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

Applicants must be available to work between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Other availability for weekend concerts or Monday evenings would be on an interest and project basis.  Average of 10 hours weekly. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
