The Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Publications Editor within the Research Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The Research Division provides high-quality policy analysis, research support and other assistance to the Nevada Legislature, individual Legislators, legislative committees and constituents. This is a full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada.
Position Description: Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Publications and Production Services, the Publications Editor will take a lead role in editing and proofreading documents and will support the technical aspects of publication development and production. Responsibilities of the Publications Editor may include, without limitation:
- Editing written products at all levels, including, without limitation, content editing, line editing, copyediting and proofreading to ensure clarity, consistency and adherence to established style standards;
- Fact-checking content by verifying data, citations and references to maintain accuracy and credibility across all publications;
- Performing quality control for print and digital publications by reviewing layout, formatting, style and final proofs prior to release;
- Preparing indices, tables of contents, templates and other technical components of publications and work products to support usability and professional presentation;
- Placing and formatting content to ensure logical structure, visual coherence and alignment with publication guidelines;
- Performing research and gathering content to support development of high-quality written materials and reference products;
- Managing publication projects, as assigned, by coordinating timelines, deliverables and workflows to ensure efficient and accurate production;
- Preparing and remediating documents for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by applying accessibility standards and ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies;
- Assisting with production and distribution of print and electronic documents by coordinating printing, packaging, posting and dissemination processes;
- Coordinating with LCB staff within and outside the Publications Unit to support collaborative workflows and resolve publication-related issues;
- Providing editorial support for other units within the Research Division by reviewing materials, offering guidance and ensuring consistency with Division standards; and
- Performing other duties as assigned;
Minimum Qualifications: The Publications Editor will be selected with special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in publication editing. A qualified applicant must have: (1) a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferably with a major in a pertinent field of study; and (2) at least four years of editing and/or other relevant experience. A combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements may be considered.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Exemplary editing and proofreading skills;
- Outstanding command of grammar, punctuation and usage;
- Exceptional attention to detail for reviewing all aspects of publications, including text, design elements and print quality;
- The ability to learn, apply and develop expertise in organizational style guidelines;
- Expertise in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat;
- Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign;
- Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to multitask, follow direction and apply established production processes;
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure to produce a significant quantity of work products of high quality within specific deadlines;
- Familiarity with or the ability to learn about and implement accessibility standards for ADA compliance;
- A commitment to collaboration with the ability to give and receive constructive criticism;
- The ability to work professionally and impartially with diverse colleagues and stakeholders;
- Familiarity with the legislative environment or the ability to learn its unique processes and workflows; and
- The ability to self-manage, self-motivate and adapt in a dynamic work setting.
Salary: The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 41, which has a salary range of $83,666 to $125,760 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in a typical office setting. In certain situations and at the discretion of management, a portion of the Publications Editor’s duties may be performed virtually and remotely. Overtime is required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Publications Editor may earn compensatory time that may be taken at a later date or be paid for overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits. Infrequent travel may be required between Carson City and Las Vegas, Nevada, or to other locations. Such travel may be outside normal business hours.
