E-commerce Operations Intern (The Nest, Pack Intern, Fall 2026)

Internship Description:

The E-commerce Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience managing and improving online retail operations for The Nest and Check Local First. The internship focuses on maintaining online product and business listings, organizing digital content, improving the customer experience, and supporting the day-to-day operation of an online marketplace. Interns will develop practical skills in e-commerce platforms, merchandising, product photography, search optimization, and website management while contributing to real projects that support locally owned businesses. Throughout the internship, students will gain a better understanding of how successful online businesses are built, maintained, and continually improved.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
  • Responsibilities may include:
    • Creating and maintaining online product listings
    • Researching and writing product descriptions
    • Organizing inventory information 
    • Photographing merchandise 
    • Updating website content
    • Improving searchability and navigation
    • Assisting with digital merchandising 
    • Maintaining business listings for Check Local First
    • Researching best practices in e-commerce
  • Interns may also assist with outreach to locally owned businesses by introducing them to Check Local First, answering questions about the platform, and helping onboard new business listings.
  • Throughout the internship, students will collaborate with team members to identify opportunities to improve the customer experience and support other online operations projects as needed.

Goals and Expectations of the Intern:

By the end of the internship, students will have hands-on experience managing real e-commerce operations and contributing to projects that directly impact local businesses. They will build practical skills in website management, digital merchandising, product photography, search optimization, and customer experience while gaining confidence using industry tools and platforms. Interns will also strengthen their professional communication skills through collaboration with team members and outreach to locally owned businesses, leaving with a portfolio of meaningful work and a deeper understanding of how successful online businesses grow and evolve.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Fall ‘26 semester 
  • Summer ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
  • Student must be enrolled in a major or minor program in the following colleges:
    • Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR)
    • Business
    • Engineering
    • Science
    • Public Health/Orvis
  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Dependable and willing to take initiative
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Interested in e-commerce, technology, entrepreneurship, or digital marketing
  • Excited to support locally owned businesses and strengthen the local community
  • Interested in exploring more conscious, community-focused approaches to business
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with photography, graphic design, or content creation
  • Familiarity with website editing or e-commerce platforms
  • Interest in SEO, user experience, or digital merchandising
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Curiosity and the ability to independently research unfamiliar topics
  • Interest in entrepreneurship or small business operations
  • A passion for supporting local businesses and building stronger communities

Desired Schedule for Intern:

Flexible based on class schedule. Ideally, intern will work 8–15 hours/week spread across 2–3 work sessions. At least one weekly check-in is required. Some work can be done remotely, though we’d prefer in-person collaboration at The Nest whenever possible. Shop hours are 11am-6pm Monday through Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm.

Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
