Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship
Company: ERG Aerospace
Location: Sparks, Nevada
Internship Term: May 18, 2026 – August 14, 2026
Target Majors: Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical disciplines
Position Overview
ERG Aerospace is seeking engineering interns to support high-impact manufacturing and facility improvement projects tied to the company’s future-state production strategy. This internship is structured around real engineering deliverables rather than general support work. Interns will work directly with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations leadership to collect data, validate processes, improve documentation accuracy, and support future-state manufacturing planning for advanced aerospace materials production.
Program Structure
Interns will be assigned ownership of one or more scoped project areas with defined deliverables. Projects are intentionally designed to expose interns to manufacturing systems engineering, lean operations, production documentation, process verification, CAD modeling, and facility planning.
Facility Layout Verification
- Perform field measurements of current manufacturing spaces and equipment footprints
- Document current state layout
- Validate future-state floor plan assumptions against real production constraints
- Document material flow, operator access, utilities, storage, and equipment spacing
- Example deliverables: Equipment mapping, layout validation, material flow documentation
- Skilled developed: Lean manufacturing, spatial planning, operations analysis
SOP and Last-Piece Audit Verification
- Audit production documentation against actual manufacturing practices
- Verify Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and last-piece inspection requirements
- Identify documentation gaps, outdated practices, or process deviations
- Support standardization efforts for manufacturing operations
- Example deliverables: Audit reports, SOP corrections, process observations
- Skilled developed: Quality systems, documentation control, process engineering
Engineering Master (EM) Data Cleanup and Scrap Analysis
- Review and update Engineering Master data tied to long run production
- Assist with scrap rate validation and process routing cleanup
- Compare ERP system data to actual manufacturing performance
- Support manufacturing engineering initiatives focused on improving process accuracy and scheduling reliability
- Example deliverables: EM updates, scrap analysis, ERP cleanup support
- Skilled developed: ERP systems, data analysis, manufacturing engineering
Chemical Conversion Basket and Tank Design Project
- Support design improvements for in-house chemical conversion processing baskets
- Assist with concept modeling for a larger future-state tank system
- Create or update CAD models and design concepts
- Work with engineering staff to evaluate manufacturability and process integration
- Example deliverables: Basket redesign concepts, tank models, CAD updates
- Skilled developed: CAD modeling, design for manufacturing, process integration
Potential Team Structure
Depending on candidate availability and project scope, multiple interns may be hired to support different portions of the future-state manufacturing initiative. The intent is to create a collaborative engineering environment where interns contribute to connected projects while maintaining ownership of specific deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an engineering or related technical degree
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to work in a manufacturing environment
- Interest in aerospace manufacturing, process improvement, or facility design
- Ability to work independently on scoped technical projects
- Experience with CAD software, Excel, or data analysis tools is preferred but not required
Why This Internship is Different
This internship is designed around real operational problems and future-state manufacturing planning. Interns will not be limited to administrative tasks. The work completed during the internship is expected to directly support production improvement, facility planning, and manufacturing systems development efforts.
Application Information
Candidates should submit a resume along with a short description of technical interests, projects, or coursework relevant to manufacturing, design, or process improvement.
