Staff Accountant
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial records through accurate recording, reconciliation, and analysis of financial transactions. This role plays a key part in the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & GL Management
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and GL coding
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of the general ledger
- Review transactions for proper classification and identify errors or inconsistencies
- Assist in maintaining the chart of accounts and accounting policies
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Review and validate vendor bills and customer invoices for accuracy before entry
- Monitor AP and AR aging and follow up on discrepancies or unusual items
- Ensure proper application of payments and credits
- Assist in resolving vendor and customer account issues
Reconciliations & Account Analysis
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Prepare detailed account reconciliations with clear supporting documentation
- Analyze account activity and explain month-over-month variances
- Assist in monitoring inventory-related accounts and analyzing inventory movements and discrepancies.
- Maintain ownership of assigned balance sheet accounts, including monthly reconciliation, variance analysis, and resolution of outstanding items.
Month-End Close Process
- Assist in executing and improving the monthly close process
- Ensure all transactions are recorded in the proper period
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for key accounts
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure timely close completion
Audit & Compliance Support
- Maintain organized and audit-ready documentation
- Assist with external audits, tax preparation, and regulatory filings
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting procedures
Communication & Cross-Functional Support
- Collaborate with operations, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Communicate discrepancies, risks, or issues to the Accounting Manager
- Provide support and guidance to junior staff or interns as needed
