Internship Description:
As an R&D Intern, you will be immersed in the scientific process, assisting our team of scientists and engineers in innovating for a competitive global market. This is a hands-on role designed for driven individuals committed to experimental excellence and the future of green energy storage.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete a minimum of 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 9 weeks minimum)
- Support the R&D team throughout the full scientific cycle. Including planning, set-up, data collection, and breakdown under technical supervision.
- Execute test plans, operate lab instruments, and accurately collect, catalog, and report analytical results.
- Assist with laboratory maintenance, equipment readiness, and ensure the cleanliness of lab dishware and workstations.
- Prepare simple chemical solutions, media, and reagents according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain precise records of observations and escalate anomalies to senior staff to support troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
- Master the setup and operation of specialized battery research instruments and laboratory tools.
- Develop a rigorous approach to documentation and the scientific process within an industrial R&D setting.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, including the consistent use of required PPE (gloves, safety glasses, face masks, and respirators).
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘26 semester
- Spring ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for Nevada Career Studio Sponsored Internships
- Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a "Team Player" mentality.
- Ability to follow written instructions (SOPs) precisely
- Willingness to take direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Dependable and punctual
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrollment in B.S. or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of electrochemistry, physical/analytical chemistry, electrical circuits, or battery science.
- Prior experience solving problems in an engineering or laboratory environment; familiarity with SolidWorks or data logging tools.
Desired Schedule for Intern:
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
