Summer College Internship Policy Intern (Paid Internship) 

The League to Save Lake Tahoe (Keep Tahoe Blue) is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate student or recent graduate to support the Policy Team. The Policy Intern will assist with policy research, advocacy efforts, and community outreach to advance environmental policies that protect Lake Tahoe. The focus will be on transportation initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about environmental issues – especially those related to the built environment, interested in public policy, and eager to gain hands-on experience in environmental advocacy.  

 

Keep Tahoe Blue is the donor-funded, science-based organization of environmental experts and Tahoe-lovers who have led the protection and restoration of the Lake Tahoe Basin since 1957. Essential Functions/Principal Responsibilities   

Support transit and parking management initiatives (recreation access, micro transit expansion, multimodal trip planning) by helping to maximize ridership through in-person public and business outreach, developing public communications, conducting rider surveys, reviewing monitoring data, and considering adaptive management actions. 

Support legislative and government affairs efforts to improve management and increase funding for transportation priorities.  

Aid in the development of policy reports, fact sheets, and public comment letters. 

Support leadership to prepare for public meetings and working group participation through the creation of agendas, responding to emails, and ensuring preparation of documents. 

Track, attend, and summarize key government and public meetings, hearings, and workshops as a Keep Tahoe Blue representative. 

In conjunction with the Keep Tahoe Blue‘s Communications Team, help coordinate and support advocacy campaigns, including outreach to stakeholders and the public. 

Assist with organizing policy-related materials. 

Complete an internship project that encapsulates and reflects the experience gathered and the work completed during the term. Present the project during an in-person symposium with Keep Tahoe Blue staff and collaborator groups and agencies. 

 

Other Duties   

Attend meetings and activities as requested by the Supervisor. 

Assist with outreach and engagement efforts. 

Attend Keep Tahoe Blue events, if they do not conflict with primary duties, such as the annual benefit, 5th of July beach cleanups, etc. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Some travel around the Tahoe Basin will be required, and some evenings, for community and partner meetings, outreach, and Keep Tahoe Blue events. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

An interest in environmental protection and the Keep Tahoe Blue’s mission to protect, restore, and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe. 

Strong research, writing, and analytical skills. 

Attention to detail and ability to synthesize complex information. 

Strong communication and public speaking skills. 

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 

Willingness to attend public meetings and engage with stakeholders. 

Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends. 

The chosen candidate must be able to dependably get around the Lake Tahoe Basin at all reasonable hours and in all reasonable weather conditions and when public transportation is not available. Keep Tahoe Blue does not provide a vehicle or other forms of transportation. 

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. 

 

Pay, Hours and Time Requirements 

Expected Pay: $20 per hour.  

Schedule: Part Time 

Up to 248 total hours during the internship period (June 22-August 14). Flexible scheduling, not exceeding 31 hours per week.  

Potential for academic credit (depending on your institution, area of study, etc.).  

Employment duration: Temporary/seasonal Internship  

Start Date: 6/22/2026 

End Date: 8/14/2026
