Abandoned Mine Lands Intern

Abandoned Mine Lands Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This internship is a 13 week summer program starting May 2024. Under general supervision, the interns will be responsible for the discovery and physical securing of abandoned mine openings that present hazards to humans or animals. The securing's are usually barded wire fences. Work will be done at a variety of locations within Nevada. 

This job requires extensive travel and physical labor as well as camping up to 10 days in the field at a time. Some days will be up to 12 hour days. Successful incumbents will acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for employment in the natural resources industry. 

Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in earth science, mining, or related field of study at an accredited college or university. You must provide your own camping gear. Interns are required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds hiking up uneven terrain. This is a field position.
