Internship Description:
Sample Control Assistant (SCA) is responsible for bottle kit preparation, sample filtration and preservation, assist with packing and preparing samples to be shipped to sub-contract laboratories, filing documents on server, assist with sample storage/disposal, sample control working supply stock replenishment, light office janitorial duties (including garbage disposal, window cleaning, sweeping floors, etc) and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory, office, and warehouse environment. SCA has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures and relies on instructions, pre-established guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to perform functions of the job. SCA works under immediate supervision.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
- Scan and save Chain of Custody (COC) and other Sample Control documents
- Split, filter and/or preserve samples, as required
- Prepare bottle kit orders
- Assist with sample storage and disposal
- Restock supplies
- Ability to complete tasks assigned projects on or before due date.
- Light office janitorial duties – clean windows, sweep floors, dust surfaces, etc
- Empty Sample Receiving garbage and take to dumpsters
- Follow Sample Control Opening and Closing Procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized workspace
- Adhere to WETLAB Standard Operating Procedure’s (SOP).
- Other duties as assigned
Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
The internship is designed to develop reliable, well-rounded contributors who can effectively support WETLAB’s fast-paced operations. Interns are expected to demonstrate success working with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly—both verbally and in writing—when interacting with staff, customers, and groups of varying sizes. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, combined with the ability to collaborate with multiple team members, are essential.
Interns should maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while applying analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to daily tasks. They must be well-organized, dependable, punctual, and capable of performing effectively in environments that may be fast-moving or occasionally stressful. Adherence to WETLAB’s Quality Assurance Plan, Safety Plan, and all company policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines is required.
Overall, interns are expected to bring a collaborative, results-driven mindset, uphold high standards of service quality, and contribute positively to the team while gaining meaningful industry experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester
- Fall ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Student must be enrolled in a major or minor program in the following colleges:
- Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR)
- Business
- Engineering
- Science
- Public Health/Orvis

Desired Schedule for Intern:
Ideally, the intern would be available Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
