About Atlas:
Atlas is a Reno-based health and fitness technology startup designed to optimize how people find and work with a personal trainer. Through our platform, clients can connect with expert coaches and access data-driven insights and gamified features that make the training experience more effective and engaging. The platform also allows for trainers to automate administrative tasks, deliver customized plans, and grow their businesses more efficiently.
Founded by two University of Nevada, Reno alumni, Chad Sherf and Jonathan Berrien, Atlas is the winner of the 2025 Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition and operates directly here in Northern Nevada. Our mission is to support the Northern Nevada community by improving access to evidence-based fitness coaching through a balance of technology and human expertise, while building the foundation to scale the platform nationwide.
Internship Description:
The Web Design Intern will help Atlas improve and expand our web presence so that clients and trainers can more easily understand, trust, and use our platform. Working closely with our founders and product team, the intern will contribute to projects such as refining our main website, designing new landing pages, and improving the user experience of key flows that connect clients with trainers.
The intern will be exposed to multiple parts of the business, including marketing, product, and operations. They will participate in the full web design process: from gathering requirements and understanding user needs, to creating wireframes and mockups, to helping implement and test responsive web pages. The student will ship real work on a weekly basis, gaining practical experience with rapid iteration and feedback. By the end of the internship, they will have completed work that is live on the platform and can be showcased.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (10-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
- Assist in designing and updating pages on the Atlas website
- Create wireframes, mockups, and simple prototypes for new pages or features using modern design tools like Figma or Canva (don't need to have previous experience with these tools)
- Collaborate with founders to translate the user experience into web layouts and content structure
- Help maintain consistency in visuals, typography, and layouts across the site
- Support implementation of designs using basic HTML/CSS or no-code tools (such as Webflow or similar), under supervision
- Participate in basic usability reviews or feedback sessions and suggest improvements based on findings
- Document design decisions and contribute to a simple design system or style guide
Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
By the end of the internship, we expect the intern to:
- Contribute to the launch or improvement of several web pages that support client and trainer onboarding and education
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of responsive web design principles and how they apply to a real-world product
- Show growth in collaborating with a startup team, including receiving and incorporating feedback on their work
- Gain confidence in using modern web design tools and basic implementation workflows
- Build portfolio-ready examples of their work at Atlas, including before-and-after improvements or documented design decisions
We expect the intern to:
- Be reliable and prepared for scheduled meetings and work blocks
- Communicate clearly about timelines and questions
- Be open to feedback and willing to iterate on designs
- Maintain professionalism when working with company assets, user-facing materials, and internal tools

Desired Schedule for Intern:
Atlas is flexible and will work with the student’s class schedule, as long as the intern can maintain consistent hours each week. Our team operates between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday, so the intern may schedule their hours at any point within that window.
We prefer at least two to three work blocks of 3 or more hours each week to allow for focused design work and effective collaboration. Planning and collaboration will ideally take place in person at the UNR Innevation Center, but virtual work options are available to accommodate class schedules when needed.
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
