Communications Intern (Connected Future Labs, Pack Intern, Spring 2026)

**This internship is hosted by Connected Future Labs and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN.

About Connected Future Labs: 

Connected Future Labs is an agile data science consulting company that engages in a variety of activities. Our work can be found in the Meta Neural Band, in Galea (a closed-loop VR headset), and with KLAB 4 Recovery, where they develop cutting-edge rehabilitation for spinal cord injury and stroke recovery.  

  

EmotiBit is the flagship product of Connected Future Labs. It provides high-quality, multimodal, open-source biometric sensing to researchers, educators, artists, and DIY and personal health enthusiasts. EmotiBit launched in 2021 with a Kickstarter campaign that continues to be in the top 2% of all time and has since reached over 1 million dollars in sales and enabled work in over 100 publications and countless other creative and intellectual ventures. 

 

Internship Description: 

The intern will focus on projects that align with their interests. At a minimum, the intern will support the growth and online presence of the EmotiBit product. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in researching dense technical topics, communicating technical topics to a non-technical audience through a variety of modes, and an interest in inspiring a community with DIY ethos. The intern will build a portfolio of creative work demonstrating growth and versatility as a communicator. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • The intern will work with the founder, the Head of Science Communications, and other members of the team as needed. Work may include the following based on intern interest:  
  • Content creation for the EmotiBit website, newsletters, and social media by developing blog posts that feature user projects.  
  • Spearheading a how-to video initiative for EmotiBit including the development of unboxing, setup, and example demos on YouTube.  
  • Identifying and preparing for grant opportunities and/or IP acquisition.  
  • Analyzing and responding to customer feedback and support questions to develop more comprehensive customer-facing documentation and assistance. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Develop practical skills working independently and with a team to communicate progress and problems. 
  • Strengthen organizational, problem-solving, and project-tracking skills. 
  • Apply critical thinking skills to develop project management skills with time efficiency in mind. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester 
  • A passion for inspiring and creating long-lasting help for a community. 
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and a willingness to learn. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.  
  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills. 
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets). 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Coursework or extracurricular experience related to Arduino, wearables, and sensing signals from the body. 
  • Coursework or extracurricular experience related to videography, writing, and research. 
  • Familiarity with Wordpress, graphic design software (Canva, Adobe), video editing software, GitHub, and/or Freshdesk. 
  • Familiarity with social media.  
  • Demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, and never-ending curiosity. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

Preferred shift lengths are ½ to full day (3 - 8 hrs) to facilitate engagement and learning. At least one morning strongly preferred to participate in morning standup. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
