About the Community Foundation: The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada strengthens our region through philanthropy and leadership by connecting people who care with causes that matter. Since 1998, the Community Foundation has distributed over $200 million in grants and scholarships from donor-directed charitable funds. Our core work on behalf of our donors and the communities of Northern Nevada is philanthropic advising, grantmaking, charitable asset investment management, leadership, and community engagement. 

 

Internship Description: We are seeking a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented intern to support in the day-to-day administration of our scholarship program. Our scholarship program has seen tremendous growth in the past few years – in 2025, we awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships from 42 different funds. Additionally, we saw a 50% increase in the number of applications from the prior year. The intern will work closely with the Donor Relations Associate to be able to support applicants, organize volunteers, and communicate with fundholders/committee members. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Learn and become familiar with all scholarships and their criteria in order to answer student and parent questions. 
  • Assist with social media posts for scholarship advertising and support scholarship presentations at high schools, as schedule allows.
  • Effectively use the scholarship management software to assist students with Eligibility Quizzes, applications, and submissions of follow-up materials.
  • Screen submitted applications for completeness and correct attachments prior to assigning to an evaluator. 
  • Assist with volunteer coordination to recruit and engage volunteers for scholarship selection. 
  • Outreach to fundholders and/or committee members for each scholarship to schedule committee meetings. Attend and assist in notetaking for meetings, as schedule allows.
  • Follow-up with students to ensure timely submission of scholarship acceptance agreements, and other required materials. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High standards of professional courtesy and confidentiality in all interactions. 
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, and detail-oriented.  
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Computer skills to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working or volunteering in nonprofit organizations – volunteer management a plus.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Monday.com, and social media platforms
  • Experience using a CRM database software preferred, but not required. 
  • Junior or Senior in college preferred.

 

Desired Schedule for Intern: mid-January through mid-June. 12-16 hours per week, depending on student schedule. Days and times for this internship can be flexible and determined with supervisor upon hire.
