Data Analyst Intern (UNR Office of Enterprise and Innovation, Pack Intern, Spring 2026)

About Enterprise & Innovation (E&I):  

Enterprise & Innovation (E&I) provides a comprehensive range of services to support every stage of the research commercialization journey. We offer tailored resources for University of Nevada, Reno faculty, staff, students, as well as external businesses and entrepreneurs. 

Our team partners with researchers to protect intellectual property (IP), including patent filings, and to identify commercial collaborators who can help bring groundbreaking innovations to market. We also work closely with businesses and entrepreneurs on all aspects of research commercialization and the licensing of University-developed technologies. 

Many new products and startup ventures originate from early-stage technologies developed within the University’s research environment. These innovations are often refined and scaled for global market applications, contributing to economic development and societal impact. 

 

Internship Description: 

The Data Analyst (DA) intern will support Enterprise & Innovation with various tasks, including the review, documentation, and proposal of data acquisition and visualization. DA Intern will work on the development of processes to support the E&I team including the leveraging of technology tools. Additionally, the intern will work with database or spreadsheets to perform data entry, editing and creation of reports, and visualizations with PowerBi. This position will report directly to the Data and Analytics Specialist. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Input, review, analyze and document Intellectual Property, Startup activity, and Commercialization data for key E&I processes. This includes assisting with monthly and yearly metric reporting for use in financial reporting, website statistical reporting, and visualizations that will be presented campus wide. 
  • Input, review, and analyze data related to Intellectual Property, startup activity, and commercialization efforts. 
  • Assist in generating monthly and annual metrics for financial reports, website analytics, and campus-wide presentations. 
  • Research and recommend best practices for data entry, management, and visualization. 
  • Organize shared folders and Box documents for improved accessibility and collaboration. 
  • Utilize office productivity tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to compile, manipulate, and present data. 
  • Develop workflows and processes for integrating data from multiple sources into a unified database. 
  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data-related processes. 
  • Support the creation of Power BI dashboards and other visualizations. 
  • Contribute to monthly reporting of University IP activity for internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Gain hands-on experience in data analytics, reporting, and technology tools used in research commercialization. 
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team and contribute to meaningful projects that impact innovation at the University. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester 
  • Strong analytical abilities, including research, conceptual, quantitative skills 
  • Effective communicator, including writing and presentation skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., database manipulation and analysis); Word (e.g., track changes) to document analysis, collaboratively edit content 
  • Accountable and mature; organized and detail-oriented 
  • Strong work ethic, persistence and creativity in meeting goals, flexible with a can-do attitude 
  • Communicative; able to responsibly pose questions and ask for clarification whenever necessary  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) to manipulate data and perform computations 
  • Familiarity with SQL and data structures 
  • Proficiency with data visualization software such as PowerBi and Tableau 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

  • Must be able to work on-location in a controlled environment in Reno, NV. 
  • Most work will be done during business hours Monday-Friday, but we are willing to work with class schedule. 
  • Location of work is off the main campus of the University  

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
