Community Engagement Intern (City of Reno, Pack Intern, Spring 2026)

**This internship is hosted by City of Reno - Community Engagement & Services and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN. 

 

Students are highly encouraged to visit the Nevada Career Studio in-person Fridays from 12:00 to 4:00 or use our Virtual Resume + Cover Letter Tune Up service BEFORE applying for these positions. Students are welcome to by any time during our drop-in hours, but we’ll have dedicated staff on Fridays! Community Engagement & Services Department: 

Guided by the City of Reno’s mission statement, Community Engagement and Services (CES) Department oversees key external-facing supportive services and programs designed to enhance the Reno community and serve as accessible entry points for residents to engage.   

  

Overview: 

Dedicated to understanding community needs, the department fosters meaningful engagement through relationship-building, public partnerships, and collaborative solutions. CES acts as a vital bridge between the community and City departments, advancing initiatives that enhance livability, quality of life, and resilience. Through the management of diverse programs and services, CES addresses both everyday operational needs and innovative strategies—ranging from community engagement and environmental efforts to resource connection and quality-of-life improvements 

 

Internship Description: 

The Community Engagement Intern will assist in supporting a variety of community engagement programming, specifically the Citywide Public Engagement Plan. This may include building relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders. This position is ideal for someone passionate about community outreach, public service, and social impact. The intern will gain hands-on experience in city outreach and communication strategies, understanding city and regional policy issues and initiatives, and and stakeholder engagement. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support the planning and execution of community outreach initiatives 
  • Assist in maintaining relationships with local partners, volunteers, and stakeholders 
  • Coordinating meetings as needed 
  • Represent the organization at community events, tabling sessions, or meetings (virtually or in person) 
  • Gather feedback from community members and help analyze engagement metrics 
  • Create promotional materials and outreach content as needed 
  • Conduct research on community needs, engagement strategies, or partnership opportunities 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Communication & Collaboration: Maintain open and consistent communication with the supervisor (e.g., weekly check-ins), timely response to emails, etc.  
  • Reliability & Time Management: Adhere to agreed-upon schedule and notify supervisor in advance of any changes. Track hours and tasks accurately, submitting regular progress updates. 
  • Professionalism: Represent the organization positively and respectfully in all interactions. Maintain confidentiality and respect for diverse communities and perspectives. 
  • Initiative & Learning: Ask questions, seek feedback, and show a willingness to learn. Take initiative to suggest improvements or get involved in new areas of the organization’s work. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester 
  • Proficient in word, excel, and have experience with platforms like Canva. Strong communication and written stills 
  • Project management abilities 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Self-starter and organized 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

  • Open to times during regular business hours (9:00 - 4:00)

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
