Program Management Intern (Project REAL, Pack Intern, Spring 2026)

**This internship is hosted by Project REAL and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN. 

 

Students are highly encouraged to visit the Nevada Career Studio in-person Fridays from 12:00 to 4:00 or use our Virtual Resume + Cover Letter Tune Up service BEFORE applying for these positions. Students are welcome to by any time during our drop-in hours, but we’ll have dedicated staff on Fridays! Resumes and cover letters that do not meet NCS expectations will not be included in applicant packages to employers.   

 

Project REAL 

 

About Project REAL: 

Since 2005, Project REAL has helped Nevada's K-12 students become law abiding citizens that feel empowered and contribute positively to their communities. We provide field-trips to the courthouses of Nevada where students watch live criminal proceedings, and a number of classroom activities that teach students about the law and civics. We provide all these services & resources at no cost to the schools, teachers, & students we serve. 

 

Internship Description: 

The Project REAL Pack interns will conduct work in 4 main areas of service: 

  • In-field Direct Service (Field trips / mock trials / educational talks). This includes scheduling, planning, coordinating, and leading the experiences for students in Nevada. 
  • Capacity expansion, by conducting outreach programs that build relationships with teachers we are not already working with, and getting them to bring our resources into our classrooms. 
  • Professional writing, by drafting and uploading 'Additional Content' - articles summarizing law related news, that include essay question prompts formatted for a school setting. 
  • Semester Project - Developed & selected with the intern's input will be a unique project for the semester tailored to the interns strengths, allowing for practical application of those skills in a way that helps create more program capacity in Northern Nevada for Project REAL (like creating a new activity that can be offered to students, or organizing a fundraiser). 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

Primary 

  • In-Field Service when scheduled 
  • Semester Project: Teacher-Partner communication management (reporting field trip outcomes, scheduling with instructors, and conducting any communication needed with instructors in Northern Nevada to help build their relationship with Project REAL). 
  • Semester Project selected by intern 

Secondary 

  • Pre-field trip presentations at schools with scheduled trips. 
  • Outreach to new teachers (getting them to schedule field trips, use our books in their classroom, etc) 
  • Contributing to our additional reading materials (creating social media posts about law related news, then creating 3-5 paragraph summaries of those stories for use as 'additional reading' for the book we produce and distribute). 

Other Duties 

  • Contributing to the creation of new activities and textbooks as needed 
  • Helping with volunteer recruitment and management. 
  • Attending special events where new teachers can be recruited to Project REAL as teacher-partners. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Based on their strengths and experience, each intern will work with their supervisor to develop metrics-driven goals to measure their performance throughout the semester. 
  • These may be number of students served, number of new teachers onboard, or number of new content articles completed - these will all be determined based on the interns, and the work they end up performing. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester 
  • In order of importance: 
    • An ability to work independently 
    • Self-supervision & accountability 
    • Comfort speaking to groups (or enthusiasm for getting better) 
    • Professional demeanor
    • Moderate-to-strong writing skills 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

In order of importance / preference: 

  • Familiarity with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc) 
  • Familiarity with MS Excel 
  • Familiarity with MS PowerPoint / MS Publisher 
  • Social butterflies & networkers (Not social media management) 
  • Strong proof-reading abilities 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

Applicants must be available for at least two 4-hour shifts between 9am and 1pm, including at least one on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday; Remaining service hours will be determined with the internship supervisor based on class schedules and other factors. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
