Position Information:
The Public Health Informatics Specialist provides professional informatics, data support and analysis for assessment and research to promote improved public health outcomes; develops informatics systems and platforms; and performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of full-time experience in health informatics and analysis in a public health, human services, or closely related agency AND a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, data sciences, informatics, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certificate
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Ideal Candidate Criteria
Reporting to the Statistics and Informatics Supervisor in the Population Health Division, the ideal candidate for the Public Health Informatics Specialist position will bring expertise in managing, analyzing, and visualizing large health datasets using tools such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, and have knowledge of health data standards and data governance principles. The candidate is expected be a detail-oriented, solutions-driven professional with a strong foundation in information systems. The candidate should also bring experience in translating complex technical outputs into actionable insights, mapping data flows, supporting disease surveillance, and improving public health decision-making.
