Assignment Manager

KTVN 2 News Nevada is seeking a dynamic, highly organized Assignment Manager to lead the day-to-day news gathering operations across our broadcast and digital platforms. This role serves as the central hub for coordinating news crews, managing daily assignments, generating story ideas, and facilitating seamless communication within the newsroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily news coverage and crew deployment, ensuring aggressive, well-coordinated content gathering.
  • Generate and maintain a robust file of local and regional stories, sources, and contacts.
  • Organize and lead editorial meetings, helping shape newscasts and digital coverage.
  • Collaborate with producers and newsroom leaders on content planning and execution.
  • Coordinate live shots, court coverage pools, and external content partnerships (CBS, CNN, etc.).
  • Maintain assignment desk operations, including scheduling, vacation planning, and shift coverage.
  • Supervise newsroom staff and interns in daily content execution.
  • Ensure timely posting of digital stories and provide daily communication with promotions for topical teasers and breaking news.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a professional newsroom environment. (Television newsroom experience (REQUIRED)
  • Assignment Desk experience (PREFERRED)
  • Strong editorial judgment, with experience coordinating crews and managing breaking news scenarios.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in newsroom software such as ENPS, and digital tools for publishing.
  • Must be tech-savvy with basic editing, feed, scanner, and satellite knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.

Education & Licenses:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available for flexible scheduling, including weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and breaking news situations.
  • Must be able to lift and carry news equipment as needed.
