The Nest

About The Nest:

The Nest isn’t just a highly curated vintage and secondhand boutique — it’s a deeply community-rooted small business built on sustainability, creativity and connection. For over 15 years, we’ve built a space that values storytelling over trends and connection over consumption — a place where people come not just to shop, but to feel inspired and seen.

Interns at The Nest are invited into that spirit. Interns will work closely with the owner on creative, purposeful projects that blend marketing, digital strategy and early-stage business development. It’s a collaborative, relationship-based environment where curiosity is valued, mentorship is hands-on, and your ideas are always welcomed.

Right now, we're expanding our social, digital and e-commerce presence while developing a new startup focused on conscious, ethical innovation. We are looking for someone who’s excited to learn, contribute meaningfully and help build something from the ground up. If you thrive in creative spaces and love purpose-driven work, this is the place to dive in.

Internship Description:

We're looking for a creative, self-directed intern to support both The Nest and a new purpose-driven startup. This is a hands-on role where the intern will help with website creation, marketing, digital strategy and business development in a flexible, collaborative environment. We’ll tailor the experience to their strengths and provide weekly mentorship and feedback as we bring ideas to life. This internship is designed for someone who’s curious, resourceful, community-driven and excited to be part of building something meaningful.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
  • Assist with website building, social media content planning and scheduling (Instagram posts, stories and reels), writing captions and blog-style content
  • Complete design work using Canva or similar tools
  • Support early development tasks including branding, website design and beta testing for a new purpose-driven startup
  • Intern may also be asked to assist with:
    • Organizing digital files or workflows
    • Researching aligned brands or competitors
  • The intern will attend a weekly check-in with owner, where we’ll review progress, set goals and collaborate on upcoming projects.

Goals and Expectations of the Intern:

By the end of the internship, we’d love for the student to feel more confident using their creative and strategic skills in a real-world setting. They’ll gain experience developing content, organizing systems and thinking holistically about brand identity. We expect the intern to show initiative, ask questions, communicate regularly and contribute their ideas as we build and refine projects together.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Fall ‘25 semester
  • Summer ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
  • Strong written and in-person communication skills
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms (especially Instagram)
  • Ability to manage time independently and meet deadlines
  • Interest in sustainability, entrepreneurship and digital storytelling
  • Access to a computer and internet connection for remote work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Canva, Notion or similar tools for graphic design
  • Skill in market and brand research
  • Experience with website creation and editing (especially Square)
  • Some familiarity with social media strategy, analytics and creative tools
  • Curious mindset and a love of problem-solving

Desired Schedule for Intern:

Flexible based on class schedule. Ideally, intern will work 8–15 hours/week spread across 2–3 work sessions. At least one weekly check-in is required. Some work can be done remotely, though we’d prefer in-person collaboration at The Nest whenever possible. Shop hours are 11am-6pm Monday through Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm.

Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
