Retail Associate

Part-Time /24.5+ hours per week/ Non-Exempt, Thursdays- Sundays with occasional late evenings. The Museum is an EOE. 

As the Retail Associate for the Nevada Museum of Art, this position serves as a key ambassador for the Museum by providing a unique, welcoming, and engaging shopping experience for all visitors. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, energetic, and knowledgeable. In addition to superior selling abilities and a strong commitment to exceptional customer service, the Retail Associate has enthusiasm for the Museum and the retail spaces. The Retail Associate creates a lasting and positive impression of the Museum while always maintaining the appearance and organization of the retail space through restocking and upkeep. This position reports to the Director of Retail Operations and requires consistent reliability, including fulfilling all scheduled hours and maintaining adequate availability during regular and peak Museum hours.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  

  • Deliver an outstanding customer experience by engaging warmly with visitors, anticipating their needs, and providing knowledgeable product recommendations.
  • Stay up to date on product knowledge, vendor background, and how merchandise ties into current and upcoming exhibitions.
  • Actively contribute to meeting retail revenue goals by up-selling, cross-selling and promoting membership opportunities.
  • Maintain visual merchandising standards by regularly restocking, organizing, and refreshing displays to maximize the retail experience.
  • Keep up to date with Altru and its point-of-sale (POS) system functions, handling basic sales for memberships, merchandise, tickets, and admissions.
  • Stay informed about Museum programs, events, and exhibitions to better assist and inform visitors.
  • Collaborate with Museum staff and volunteers to support operational flow, special events, and seasonal promotions.
  • Adhere to the Museum safety and security protocols as trained.
  • Perform other retail duties as needed including but not limited to annual inventory, data entry, shipping and receiving, backroom stocking and other tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of professional retail experience required
  • Strong customer engagement skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems
  • Ability to stand for long periods on hard surfaces
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Computer and software experience:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Outlook
    • Excel
    • Database operation and data entry
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
  • Strong math skills for cash handling and inventory processes
